Application of molybdenum: the average content of molybdenum in the earth’s crust is 0.00011%, and the global reserves of molybdenum are about 11 million tons. Molybdenum is widely used in iron and steel, petroleum, chemical industry, electrical and electronic technology, medicine and agriculture, etc. At the same time, molybdenum is one of the essential trace elements that affect the normal growth of people or plants. Molybdenum is mainly used in iron and steel industry, accounting for about 80% of the total consumption. The second is the chemical industry, accounting for about 10%. It is also used in the fields of electrical and electronic technology, medicine and agriculture, which together account for about 10 per cent of total consumption.
I. three world-class molybdenum mining projects
Based on domestic and foreign markets, molybdenum concentrate industry has a high concentration. The top 11 enterprises in the world control 72% of the market supply, among which 5 are from China:
They are shaanxi jinduicheng molybdenum industry, luoyang molybdenum industry, China railway yichun luming mining, China gold manzhouli wushan mining, and hebei fengning xinyuan mining of huaxia jianlong group.
In the next five years, the large-scale mines that are likely to be put into production in China include heilongjiang daxinganling chaolukou molybdenum mine and anhui shapinggou molybdenum mine.
Anhui shapinggou molybdenum mine profile
After 2011, China’s new discovery of anhui shapinggou three 2 million tons of world-class molybdenum resources.
Shapinggou molybdenum deposit is a giant “porphyry” molybdenum deposit located in jinzhai county, lu ‘an city, anhui province, about 50 Km away from jinzhai county. Hefei – wuhan high – speed railway, highway from the southern mining area through.
The hardened road in the village connects the main residential areas into a whole, and connects the county and township roads, forming a convenient traffic network.
According to the estimation of “exploration geological report of shapinggou molybdenum deposit in jinzhai county, anhui province” (March 2013), the proved + controlled + inferred grade (i.e. 331+332+333) of shapinggou molybdenum ore has 177,4710,400 tons of ore reserves and 2,459,413.82 tons of molybdenum metal, with an average grade of 0.139%.
It is the largest molybdenum deposit in Asia and the second largest in the world.
Molybdenum content in molybdenum ore (MoS2) accounts for 96.97-97.93% of the total molybdenum content. The laboratory process test indexes are as follows:
Molybdenum concentrate grade 50.80%, 50.59%, molybdenum recovery 90.64%, 91.49%; The sulfur concentrate grade is 35.10%, 40.10%, the sulfur recovery rate is 65.46%, 59.21%, which has reached the quality standard of gb320-89 molybdenum concentrate grade kmo49-a.
Shapinggou molybdenum ore is easy to be sorted and the associated sulfur can be used comprehensively. The main ore body thickness variation coefficient is 36%, the industrial ore body thickness variation coefficient is 48%, belongs to the stable ore body.
Heilongjiang daxinganling branch road mouth molybdenum mine
Heilongjiang daxinganling chaolukou molybdenum deposit is another giant molybdenum deposit discovered in China in recent years, the total construction investment is estimated to exceed 10 billion yuan, by yunnan chihong zinc germanium and Beijing longdong investment two private enterprises holding shares, the mine has started construction, is expected to put into trial production in three years.
The resource amount of chaolukou mine is the same as that of shapinggou mine, but its disadvantage is that its grade is too low.
The total amount of molybdenum resources is 2.46 million tons, including 1.76 million tons of industrial ore (grade), 0.06%, accounting for 72% of the total, with an average grade of 0.087%. Low grade mine (grade) 0.07 million tons, accounting for 28% of the total, with an average grade of 0.048%.
The institute obtained some indexes of China railway yichun luming mining from the public information, and compared them with anhui shaping molybdenum mine and heilongjiang daxinganling chaolukou molybdenum mine. It can be seen that anhui shaping molybdenum mine has certain comparative advantages in both resource endowment and geographical location.
Famous molybdenum companies in China include jinduicheng molybdenum industry co., LTD., luoyang luanchuan molybdenum industry group co., LTD., China railway yichun luming mining co., LTD., China gold manzhouli wushan mining co., LTD., China huaxia jianlong group hebei fengning xinyuan mining co., LTD., etc.
Distribution of molybdenum resources in China
China is one of the countries with the richest molybdenum resources in the world. According to the data released by the ministry of land and resources, China’s molybdenum reserves (metal content) have reached 27.268 million tons by 2014.
In terms of the geographical distribution of molybdenum deposits in China, the central and southern regions account for 35.7% of the country’s total molybdenum reserves, 19.5% in northeast China, 13.9% in northwest China, 12% in north China, and only 4% in southwest China.
Henan province holds the most molybdenum reserves, with 30.1% of the total, followed by shaanxi province with 13.6% and jilin province with 13%, which have 56.5% of the total.
In addition, there are many provinces (regions) : 6.7% in shandong, 4% in hebei, 3.7% in liaoning and 3.6% in Inner Mongolia. These eight provinces (regions) together account for 81.1% of China’s total molybdenum reserves.
At present, the world’s largest molybdenum mine for the United States Colorado kleimax molybdenum, reserves of more than 3 million tons. Henan’s luanchuan molybdenum mine has a total reserves of 2.06 million tons, ranking the third in the world and the second in Asia.
Compared with the United States and Chile and other major molybdenum resource countries in the world, the main feature of China’s molybdenum deposits is large, but low grade. Low-grade deposits with average grade less than 0.1% account for 65% of total reserves, of which 10% is less than 0.05%.
Medium grade (0.1% ~ 0.2%) deposits account for 30% of total reserves, rich grade (0.2% ~ 0.3%) deposits account for 4% of total reserves, and rich ore deposits with grade greater than 0.3% account for only 1% of total reserves.
Development of molybdenum resources in China
Since the reform and opening up, China’s molybdenum industry has ushered in the peak of development. In 1995, the output of molybdenum concentrate in China increased from 10,000 tons in 1985 to 73,000 tons, and in 2008 to 180,000 tons. In 2014, it reached a historical high of 202,000 tons.
Later, due to the sluggish performance of the steel industry, the growth rate of molybdenum demand slowed down, and the excess supply of molybdenum led to the continuous decline of molybdenum price, and the annual output dropped to 185,000 tons in 2016.
According to statistics, the average output of molybdenum concentrate in China from 2007 to 2016 was 179,000 tons.
In recent years, the development of domestic molybdenum resources shows the trend of increasing concentration, large quality mines gradually control in the hands of a few enterprises, state-owned enterprises accounted for the vast majority.
In 2016, China had about 20 mines with a certain scale of production, among which the top five enterprises accounted for 70% of the total output.
